Wave analysis during energetic electron microinjections: A case study

The Magnetospheric Multi-scale Mission has frequently observed periodic bursts of counterstreaming electrons with energies ranging from ≈ 30 to 500 keV at the Earth's magnetospheric boundary layers, termed “microinjections.” Recently, a source region for microinjections was discovered high-latitude magnetosphere where showed up simultaneously all energy channels and were organized by magnetic field variation associated ultra low frequency mirror mode waves (MMWs) 5 min periodicity. These MMWs strong higher electromagnetic wave activity. Here, we have identified some these as ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves. EMIC parallel electric fields often lead radiation belt electron losses due pitch-angle scattering. We show that, present event, are not responsible scattering into loss cone, thus, they unlikely be microinjection signature. also find that potentials within adequate explain >90 energies. While whistler may contribute exist during this there no burst data available verify this.
